Throughout my career, being of service to clients and customers has always been my passion. In an age of technological disconnection and prolific screen-based interaction, it's a special gift to be given personalized, caring service. Through our brick-and-mortar shop in Boothbay, Maine as well as our in-person closet edits and wardrobe consultations (available world-wide), we aim to carry on this important tradition of customized personal attention. Our approach is body-positive and supportive--we want everyone to feel seen, heard, and valued. We aim to carry the widest range of sizes we can source so that whether you're an XXS or an XXXL, you leave here feeling chic and beautiful. Our shop has a play space for children, a comfortable vintage sofa for shopping pals and nursing mothers. We are LGBTQ+ friendly and a Transgender safe space. Everyone is welcome here. Personal styling shouldn't be reserved just for the rich and famous--we believe everyone should feel cared for when they get dressed.
Clothing doesn't have to be new to be valuable, beautiful, and worthy of being cherished. Our commitment to sourcing the best quality pre-owned clothing is a choice that supports our desire to provide still-valuable items with a second life and to keep useful items out of the textile waste stream. Any new items we carry come from companies that share our values: individual artisans, carefully sourced non-toxic ingredients, fair wages and safe working conditions for laborers, and ethical trade practices. We have carefully vetted each brand with whom we partner and take our commitment to these values very seriously.
We are aiming to be a plastic-free & low-waste business. We will give 3% of our profits (1% each) to Oceana (funding initiatives specifically to solving the ocean trash & plastics problem); New Hope For Women to support local anti-domestic violence initiatives; and Labor Behind the Label to support world-wide garment workers' rights.
We have lots of treasures to discover. By offering pre-loved clothing, shoes, and accessories, we can share with you the thrill of finding something totally special, different, and original. Our skincare and beauty products are thoughtfully made and beautifully packaged, made with safe, non-toxic ingredients. Yes, we have luxury items, as well, for the moments you want to splurge or invest in a piece with proven style staying power.
Getting dressed should be a joy. Let us help you find yours.
We decided to buck the traditional consignment model for resale. Don't get us wrong--we LOVE consignment stores (obviously) but for us the consignment process always felt clunky, bummed us out if things we loved or thought had value didn't get accepted, and sometimes we forgot to get the things that didn't sell. (oops!)
Our buying process is evolving as our business does--please download a copy of our current buying guidelines below to find out more!
In-house personal styling assistance is complimentary--and incredibly fun! We love helping our customers evolve their sense of style. Whether you need one outfit for a special occasion, a few new pieces to spice up your work wardrobe, or you're in need of a complete overhaul, simply call us to set up a time for a consultation during our normal business hours. We will chat together to determine your goals and budget and before your appointment, we will pull items together (everything from clothing to shoes to accessories) that we think you will love. Don't worry--you can't offend us if you don't like something. We just want to find what YOU love and what makes you feel great. Call or email us to book an appointment today! Drop-in appointments are also available--just come by and if we're not busy we would be happy to help you right on the spot.
Please call us at 207.350.1696 or email us at email@example.com to make a styling appointment.
We are located conveniently along the lovely winding road from Rte. 1 that leads to Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, and Southport, Maine. Our shop is on the first floor of an old post and beam barn. Look for our black & white sign.
One of my earliest memories is of a dress up trunk in our playroom in my childhood home in Maine.
My favorite outfit was an old dance costume with gold sequins and a big tulle skirt and a pair of feather-trimmed sandals. I loved to clunk around the room teetering on those precarious heels, pretending to be a very fancy lady.
Now, I am grown (and fairly seldom to be found dressed as a fancy lady) and my own children have their own version of this ritual in our home. In many ways, I've never tired of the joy that was at the core of my childhood play: experimentation, frivolity, discovery, beauty. As adults, though, we can sometimes forget what that joy feels like when we are getting dressed every day. That's the feeling I want AMELIA to bring to every customer who walks through our doors.
I didn't start out my career in fashion--far from it. I graduated college with a double major in Biology (Marine Ecology) and English (Women's Narrative). I couldn't have seen then how these two interests would later become the heart of this business--though now it's all becoming clear to me. I moved through many career paths in my 20's and 30's (teacher, private chef, retail manager & personal stylist, yoga teacher, creative strategist & business consultant), never thinking these disparate threads would come together to make any sense. Now, however, I can see how my experiences with style and luxury, business development, personal service, and a deep passion for sustainability all come together to make AMELIA the unique business I have always wished to create.
